THE South Wales Argus is celebrating 125 years of publication and to mark this anniversary we have launched the 125 Appeal.

We are looking for 125 fundraising teams to join our appeal to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care. This money will help with the different work that they carry out in our community.

Whether you want to hold a 125 themed bake sale or cycle a 125 miles, we need you to join the 125 Appeal to raise funds for the hospice.

Raising just £125 will pay for someone to have one and a half sessions at the day hospice. That can make a huge difference to a person.

Jennie Littlejohns uses the day hospice in Newport. She said: “Coming to the day hospice gives me a lovely day out and I look forward to it every week. I enjoy the company of the other ladies and we have a wonderful lunch.

“The nurses are wonderful here. It’s just wonderful to be out the house.

“It’s good for my daughter and son in law because they know I’m safe and being looked after and they can do their own things.”

Elaine Palmer has been working in the kitchen as the St David’s Hospice Care as cook for almost four years. She makes the meals that are served to people who use the hospice as well as the staff.

“I find it so rewarding working here. Sometimes I get to meet some of the people and it’s nice to put a smile on their face,” she said.

The funds raised by the 125 Appeal will help the hospice to continue to offer a range of services for people of all ages.

The hospice works alongside patients and to support them at the most difficult times of their lives. St David’s Hospice Care aims to ensure that patients have choice about the care they receive and maintaining dignity throughout their journey.

We want to raise as much money as possible for the hospice so they can continue their work.

When we launched the appeal CEO Emma Saysell said. “The tremendous and exciting 125 Appeal will allow us to further boost the profile of St David’s Hospice Care in our community through the excellent, regular exposure we will receive both in paper and online.”

“We welcome the chance the 125 Appeal will give very many more people to raise funds for St David’s Hospice Care through the 12 months.

“All of which is so important in helping us to continue to deliver the vital, free services that we do, day and night, 365 days of each and every year that so many are, in increasing numbers, coming to rely on in our community throughout Gwent.”
