THE 125 Appeal is going from strength to strength as more people pledge to join the fundraising.

To celebrate our 125 anniversary we launched the 125 Appeal to raise funds for St David’s Hospice Care.

Fundraising has been taking place across the region, including a team from The Gym in Newport who yesterday (Tuesday) began a special challenge to complete 125 miles on a stationary Bike within five days.

We already featured three-year-old Phoebe Aspey who raised £385 by building her tallest Lego tower with 125 Lego bricks. Now 11-year-old Noah Herniman from Chepstow is now planning on raising money for the appeal by organising a raffle. His auntie Sheena is receiving treatment for cancer at St David’s Hospice.

His mother Shelley said: “He’s wonderful, he is an inspirational little chap and he’s very selfless. He likes to think that he can help everyone. He wanted to raise money that could be used straight away so he will be fundraising for the 125 Appeal for St David’s.”

There have been fundraising lunches, coffee mornings and pledges of support from schools including Risca Community Comprehensive School.

Newport County Association Football Club have pledged to donate £1,000 to the appeal from their FA Community Shield fund. As well as the donation there will be a special bucket collection at Rodney Parade on March 18 before the Newport County versus Blackpool match.

Club secretary and head of operations Alex Tunbridge said: “We are happy to be working with the Argus and doing our part to support the 125 Appeal and St David’s Hospice who are one of the club chosen charities for the season. We are delighted to support a valuable local cause.”

We are looking for more fundraisers to join the appeal to raise money to help with the cost of running the hospice. If you can think of a fun, innovative or quirky ways you can use the 125 theme to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care then we would love to hear about them.

Join these fundraisers and show your support for the 125 appeal. Share our stories, Tweet your support and use #125Appeal.
