BRAVE fundraisers will take part in a daring challenge to raise money for a Gwent hospice, including a member of the Argus team.

Argus reporter Estel Farell-Roig will be one of the people taking part in an abseil from the Newport transporter bridge on October 7 to raise money for the 125 Appeal.

The appeal has already raised thousands of pounds to support the work of St David’s Hospice Care who offer a range of services to people across Gwent.

Ms Farell-Roig will descend 178 feet from the edge of the Newport landmark to the car park below.

She said: “I am looking forward to the abseil, I love anything that is a bit adventurous and exciting. I have previously gone caving for work and went to an adventure park for my birthday. I really enjoy things that have are both physically and mentally challenging.

“I am not worried about the abseil itself, but more about the climb up. It will be a slow realisation of how high the bridge is. I bet it will be tiring as well.

“I will probably just spend the abseil screaming and saying things in Catalan or Spanish. It tends to happen in situations like this.”

Although the abseil will be a day Ms Farell-Roig will never forget the experience, raising money for the hospice is the focus of the challenge.

“I hope I can raise as much as money as I can doing the abseil,” she said. “Through my work at the South Wales Argus I have learnt what a difference St David’s Hospice make in Gwent.”
