A HOUSE in Newport is being closed down for three months by magistrates today because of disorder there.

Stuart Davies, Robert Sargeant and Christine Kenny, who have  racked up 160 offences between them, will be forced to leave the disorder "haven" in Potter Street, Newport, the court heard.

Class A drugs have been sold outside the house in Pill and drugs stored inside, Cwmbran Magistrates' Court heard.

The trio are both addicted to drugs and alcohol, the court heard.

Neighbours have been disturbed by recurring shouting, swearing and fights, magistrates heard.

People at the premises have threatened to stab each other and on one occasion a TV was thrown out of the property, the court was told. Gwent Police applied for the closure order today.

Prosecutor Fleur Jones said the three occupants did not have control over who went in and out of the house.

Neighbours including elderly people were at "their wits' ends" and needed some "peace and comfort", Gwent PC Paula Spence added.

Sargeant has 74 offences recorded against him, Davies 47 and Kenny 39 on her record, magistrates were told.

They including offences against property and the police, assaults, thefts and drug matters, the court heard.

All three have been given Asbos over the last year.

Sargeant and Kenny have both breached them, the court heard.

A total of 32 incidents were recorded at the property in the last 10 months, PC Spence told the court.

Prosecutor Fleur Jones said: "They are unable to control what goes on at the premises.

"They also have an extensive criminal record."

The Newport City Homes house has been boarded up because of damage but is to be secured with shutters.

Davies' solicitor, Paul Lewis, argued the closure order was unnecessary as a substantial number of incidents had occurred outside.

Mr Lewis added that the three residents faced becoming homeless.

He said: "These three individuals are alcohol dependent and drug dependent and they have to live somewhere."

Imposing a three-month closure order Cwmbran magistrate Ken Jones said: "We have made our decision having listened to the evidence and read the bundle.

"On that basis we make a closure order for a period of three months in Potter Street.

"We are satisfied it has caused serious nuisance to members of the public.

"We are satisfied the order is necessary to prevent nuisance."

The closure order takes effect today and the three residents have until 7pm to remove items from the house.
