A NEW act has been added to the line up of Newport’s Record Store Day this weekend.

Matthew Bartlett, the Welsh Wedding Bagpiper, is the latest addition to the line-up for Diverse On The Usk the finale of Newport’s Record Store Day tomorrow. on April 18.

Diverse On The Usk is organised by Diverse Music with the whole day sponsored by Loftus Garden Village.

The day aims to celebrate the local music scene with three fantastic bands taking to the stage on the terrace of the Riverfront Theatre from 4pm to 8pm as part of the venue’s monthly Sessions event.

The mayor of Newport, Councillor Matthew Evans, will officially open Diverse on the Usk at 4pm, shortly before the first band takes to the stage.

Local bands Houdini Dax, The Vestals and Burning Ferns will be performing acoustic sets, with Goldie Lookin' Chain DJing at the event. Throughout the day musicians provided by Newport City Radio will be playing pop-up gigs to entertain shoppers along Commercial Street between Kriminal Records in the Market and Diverse Music on Charles Street.

Newport Record Store Day T-shirts will also be given away throughout the day at the various venues involved.

Kriminal Records will hold a pop-up shop open in the Newport Indoor Market from 10am-3pm, before moving to the Riverfront Theatre from 4pm-8pm.

Money raised at the sale will be donated to Maes Ebbw Bach, a school for children with autism and other special needs located in Brynglas.

Diverse Music will also be open as usual during the day where they will be selling Record Store Day limited edition releases and providing music fans.
