CAERLEON residents have a good excuse to get to the pub this evening, as the Bell Inn will be doubling up as a polling station.

The historic coaching inn dating back more than 400 years will put aside a section of the building for the ballot boxes, but it is not the most unusual place in Wales people can exercise their democratic rights.

Members of Blaenau Gwent’s electorate can cast a vote before getting a cut and blow dry at Rebecca’s Hair Design in Ebbw Vale or those in Islwyn can head to Fresh Hair in Fleur de Lys. Caerphilly residents can look for a caravan parked in a car park in Machen.

Voters east of Abergavenny in Llanvetherine can visit Lanes Garage to mark their choice and Scouts in Pontnewydd have had to give up their hut for the occasion.

To find out the address of your polling station, look on your poll card or visit your local council's website.

And remember the South Wales Argus will be bringing you comprehensive coverage of election night in Gwent.

From 10pm on the night, we will be bringing live updates from across the county as the polls close.

We'll be bringing you news and results from Gwent, Wales and the UK throughout the night.

You'll also be able to see live video from the counts as results come in and as the picture emerges of the winners and losers across the country, we'll tell you which parties are in and which have been booted out.

Our reporters will be at all the counts across Gwent giving updates on the mood in the party camps as the votes are counted.

As part of a UK network of newspapers, the Argus has the advantage of getting the big stories from our papers across key battlegrounds in England and Wales which we will bring you as they happen.

To find out who'll be celebrating - go to southwalesargus.co.uk on Thursday night.
