WALES’ oldest cinema is set to play host to one of the world’s top wrestlers next this week.

For one night only, the huge cinema screen will be taken down at the Market Hall cinema in Brynmawr for World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Mason Ryan to take to the stage in a bout at the historic venue.

“It’s become something of an annual tradition to host wrestling at the Hall,” said Andrea Durban, who is a member of the group that runs the venue.

Ms Durban, 32, added: "It’s such an amazing, fun night for all the family.

"But to have Mason Ryan on the bill this year makes it even more special.”

Beth Watkins, 48, who runs the cinema’s Facebook site, added: "Mason is one of the most exciting and talented wrestlers in the world, I can’t wait to see him strut his stuff.”

Welsh-born Mason Ryan, whose real name is Mason Williams, is also known to audiences around the world as ‘Goliath’ in the smash hit television serious Gladiators.

The Market Hall Cinema has had a long and surprising association with professional wrestling. 1970s wrestling legend Adrian Street was once an usher there. at the historic cinema.

Until the mid 1980s Street he was regularly on our TV screens taking on wrestling legends such as Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. Adrian Street – who now lives in Florida – recently wrote via Facebook sending his support for the Market Hall.

The Superstars of WelshWrestling show starts at 7pm on Thursday. 14th May.
