FRIENDS and family of a Trinant woman who lost her battle with cancer last year will be walking in her memory to raise money for the nurses that cared for her.

Wendy Rees died on June 26 last year aged 50 after a three-year battle with cancer.

Her daughter Stacey Rees said the care she received from Velindre Cancer Centre was "amazing" and around 200 walkers hope to raise £8,000.

The Walk for Wendy, a 10km canal walk from Gilwern to Llangynidr, is taking place from 12pm on Saturday, May 23.

There is a bus leaving Trinant Sports and Social Club at 10.30am for walkers.

Following the walk, there will be an evening of entertainment at Trinant Sports and Social Club, with singer Carly Lee and covers band 'Mr Hate' as well as a raffle.

Miss Rees said: "My Mam was a kind lady, who was at her happiest when making other people happy, she was very thoughtful.

"She was family orientated, her three children and grandchildren were her world.

"She was passionate with everything that she did. She excelled in her job as a manager.

"Even throughout her own three-year journey battling cancer she was an inspiration to many others, a constant source of reassurance and comfort to those that were also facing the same battle. She was an awesome lady."
