CWMBRAN mums who invented a new sun cream applicator took their product into a school for their first trial.

Mother-of-four Kelli Aspland, 36, and mother-of-three Laura Griffin, 32, have started their own company, Auriella, after inventing a new sun cream applicator called Solar Buddies, which helps children apply sun cream.

The pair took their product into St Davids School in Cwmbran on Tuesday to observe how 200 pupils, aged between four and 11 years old, got to grips with the product. Mrs Aspland said: “It went really well. Almost all of the children asked how they could buy them and they could use them perfectly without us even demonstrating.”

As part of the day, the pair ran a workshop teaching about the importance of staying safe in the sun, and skincare.

Mrs Griffin added: “The teachers said the workshop was very informative and hearing their feedback has made Kelli and I both extremely proud of what we’ve achieve.”

The duo have been invited to attended more schools, including one in Birmingham and two in Manchester.

The products official launch was in March and was supported by the charity Melanoma UK.

By the end of April their invention was in full production, with 2,000 being manufactured, and 1,500 already on pre-order by customers.

Now the pair report that 5,000 are currently being manufactured as their product has gone global.

with orders from Europe, including Spain and Italy, and as far as Canada and America.

The idea came as the mums noticed that when their children were in primary school, they would make a mess when trying to apply their own sun cream.

The shape of the bottle is chunky so it is easier to grip; the roller ball controls the flow of the cream, while the sponge helps children to rub the lotion in.

The bottle is refillable so parents can choose a product most suitable for their child.
