ROGIET Primary School pupils were given the chance to meet authors and have their books signed during a trip to the Hay Festival earlier today.

Around 50 pupils also enjoyed meeting the author Elen Caldecott and watching performance poet Joseph Coelho during primary school’s day at the popular literature festival.

Mr Anthony Parker, one of the teachers leading the group of school children, said it had been a fantastic day that the children really enjoyed.

“The children loved it and got all their books signed by the authors too,” he said.

“They enjoyed seeing the author Elen Caldecott and the performance poet Joseph Coelho.

“He got the whole audience involved and was a bit like a comedian.

“He had the children in the palm of his hand as it’s the sort of subject matter that they really engage with.”

He added: “The main point of the school trip is for the children to meet authors and be inspired by them.

“We want them to get excited about reading and enjoy it.”

He added that the trip was free for the pupils as part of the Hay Festival primary school’s day, with the travel costs funded by the PTA.
