THE Diocese of Monmouth has launched its five year strategy up until 2020 in the hope to respond to "changing populations, demographics, social structures and community needs".

The strategy, which was published on Saturday, May 16, sets out the diocese's plan from 2015 to 2020. It is the next stage in the process which began in 2005 with the publication of "Hope for Monmouth".

Monmouth's diocese is currently undergoing a restructure which now groups churches and parishes into Ministry Areas.

Ministry Areas are a new structure in the Church of Wales and means instead of one vicar taking care of a number of separate parishes, churches in the designated Ministry Areas will have a leadership team, council and will work together. It means members of the clergy are responsible for increasingly large areas.

Their change in role, as well as the financial concerns at diocesan and local levels, are just two of the issues the strategy seeks to address.

The strategy also wants to address declining numbers of people attending church.
