BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for information after a man posed as a cleaner to carry out a burglary at Newport railway station.
Investigating officers have today released CCTV images of a person they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place around 7pm on Wednesday, April 22.
PC Debi Rouse said: “A man gained access to a staff locker room at the station and took a high visibility vest. Posing as a cleaner, he then began cleaning some surfaces in a bid to avoid attention.
“A short time later, he went into the staff room and broke into a locker and stole £50. He then walked out of the building and left the station towards Godfrey Road.”
Ongoing enquiries have resulted in officers isolating images of a person they believe may have information about the incident. He is described as white, around 5ft 10in, of medium build and was wearing dark blue jogging bottoms and trainers.
“I believe the man in the images we are issuing today may be able to help us with our investigation,” said PC Rouse.
“I would like to appeal to anyone who may recognise the man pictured or knows his current whereabouts to contact police.”
