TRAVELLERS moved onto a beauty spot carpark in Christchurch earlier this morning.

The caravans are occupying most of the carpark at the beauty spot.

It is reported there is no space for any visitors as caravans are taking up all the space available.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said yesterday: “We received a call at 8.15am this morning, June 30, informing us that travellers had congregated in the car park on Christchurch Hill, Newport.

“Officers attended to speak with the travellers. Five caravans are currently at the location. The local authority is aware.

“Officers will continue to engage with the travellers and work alongside Newport City Council to monitor the situation.”

It comes after travellers also moved into a carpark in Christchurch earlier this month.

Gwent Police said between 30 to 35 caravans arrived on private land near the Matalan site on Spytty Road overnight on June 11.

A spokeswoman for the force said they were informed of their arrival early the following morning.

Newport City Council said that it was not a matter for the council as the group were on private land.

They left later that day.
