POLICE are appealing for information to trace a distraction theft trio who may have filmed an elderly woman as she entered her pin number at a supermarket cash machine yesterday.

The woman had done some shopping at Tesco in Ebbw Vale when the trio tried to take her bank card, Gwent Police said.

A man stood closely behind her at around noon watching or possibly videoing her as she put her pin number into the machine, a police spokesman said.

Then as she went to her car, another man distracted her by saying she had dropped something on the floor.

He then rummaged through her bag and attempted to take her card to be used together with the pin later.

It is believed the elderly female shopper was watched within the store, Gwent Police said.

A police spokesman said that nothing was stolen on this occasion.

Officers are calling on shoppers to be "vigilant" as they may well be unaware they have been a victim until much later when they realise their bank card is missing.

Detectives want to speak to three men, described as having foreign accents, about this incident.

The first man who stood behind the woman at the cash machine is described as slim, and wore a baseball cap, blue open shirt, jacket and shorts.

The second, who it is believed to have picked the victim within the shop, is bald and heavy and wore a light blue shirt and dark blue trousers.

The third man, who distracted the victim at the car, is slim with tanned skin and dark hair and wore a dark blue jacket and jeans.

Anyone who has information about this incident or wants to contact police call 101 quoting the log number 238 1/7/15.
