The fire service and police are still investigating the cause of the fire at the Rhyd-Y-Blew pub in Beaufort, Ebbw Vale.

A spokesman from the fire service said an officer was still at the scene now.

He added they were investigating the cause of the fire at the two storey disused public house which measures 25m by 13m.

"The fire on the first and second floor spread to the roof void.

"Four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and three main jets were used to tackle the fire."

The fire was extinguished earlier this morning.

A spokesman from the Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed that paramedics attended the scene as a precaution, but that nobody was taken to hospital after the fire in the disused building.

Stagecoach Wales' E3 service is unable to use Rassau Road and Stonebridge Road due to the road closure.

"Sorry for the inconvenience," a spokesman said.

Police are keeping an 'open mind' about the cause of the fire at a disused pub in Ebbw Vale.

A spokesman from Gwent Police said they would wait until the fire service had finished investigating the cause of the fire before starting their own enquiries.

He added that at this moment they were unsure whether the fire at the disused premises was accidental or deliberate.

UPDATE: 7.35am

South Wales Fire and Rescue Services group manager Owen Jayne said crews were called to a developing fire at an old disused pub in the Beaufort area of Ebbw Vale at 3.30am.

"Crews from Ebbw Vale, Brynmawr, Tredegar, Merthr and Aberbargoed attended the scene."

"At the height of the incident 26 personnel were committed to the fire which involved mainly the roof space of the detached property.

"The fire was extinguished using hydraulic platforms, three water jets and two breathing apparatus.

"The fire service are working with colleagues from other emergency services to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

"Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

"Road closures are to remain in place throughout the morning."

A spokesman from the fire service added that three water ladders, a hydraulic platform and four crews are still at the scene.

Two fire service officers are there and another is on the way.

He added that flames were "issuing from the roof".

FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze at a disused pub in Ebbw Vale.

Crews were called out to the scene at 3.30am this morning after reports of a building on fire on Rassau Road, Ebbw Vale.

On arrival Ebbw Vale and Brynmawr crews discovered a fire involving the ground floor of a disused public house and requested two further fire engines.

At 4.30am crews reported the fire involved the first floor and roof space.

At the height of the fire 26 firefighters were committed to firefighting operations

Jennie Griffiths, head of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service fire control, said this morning: "Crews currently remain at the scene and road closures are still in place. Fire investigation is being conducted."
