A WOMAN has been jailed after "going mad" and attacking staff at a Pontypool McDonald's in the early hours of the morning.

Cardiff Crown Court heard today how Danielle Jenkins, aged 23, of Beeches Road in Trevethin, was in her car at the McDonald's 'drive thru' in New Inn at around 2.30am on May 25, along with Joshua Andrews, 23, of Pitmans Court in Monmouth, and a teenager, who cannot be named due to her age.

Prosecutor Mark Battrick told the court that Jenkins, who was driving, ordered food at the window before parking.

She thought the order was short so went back to the drive thru window and demanded to speak to the manager, the court heard.

Mr Battrick added Jenkins became angry because the manager had asked to see a receipt of the order.

The manager then decided to close the window because Jenkins was "aggressive" and "drunk". Jenkins threw a cup of coffee at the closed window and then drove off, Mr Battrick added.

Moments later, Jenkins walked in through the front door but was asked to leave by the manager.

The court heard Jenkins and the youth walked behind the counter and to the till area, before the teenager pushed and punched the manager, causing her glasses to fall off.

As the manager - who suffered redness and a loose nail in the incident - struggled with the minor on the floor, Jenkins threw a punch at her, the court heard.

Staff then intervened and recalled Jenkins "going mad" while kicking the coffee machine and pulling out the tills and credit card machines from their wires causing £750 worth of damage, Mr Battrick said.

Jenkins then threw a chair towards the manager, which struck another member of staff on the arm.

Andrews - who staff initially thought had entered the restaurant to break up the fighting - punched a female member of staff in the face and threw a drink at her before leaving the premises with the other two.

Meanwhile, police had been called and attended the nearby hotel car park where the three defendants were eventually arrested.

Both Jenkins and Andrews pleaded guilty to affray at an earlier hearing, while the minor was sentenced at a youth court.

Caroline Rees, defending Jenkins, said her client was "really sorry" for her actions.

Sentencing the pair today, Judge Christopher Vosper QC said only a custodial sentence would be justified for offending against "vulnerable staff in the early hours of the morning".

Jenkins was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison with immediate effect, while the same sentence given to Andrews was suspended for 12 months.
