NEWPORT vets is looking after four gerbil-like creatures which were found at a bus stop in the city.

The four Degus were found at a bus stop on Malpas Road in Newport earlier today by a member of the public.

They were then taken to Budget Vets in Malpas where they are being looking after.

Rhiannon Jones of Budget Vets said the pets originate from Chile, and are slightly larger than gerbils and look and behave like squirrels.

She said, ”They are lovely little animals and very friendly. Degus tend to play during the day and sleep at night and these four little characters are full of fun.

We are keen to reunite them with their owner and ask that anyone with information about them to get in touch with our Malpas Road practise surgery.”

In their natural environment they live in large groups and make their homes in the rocks and hedges of the lowlands in the South American country.

The four Degus being cared for by the Budget Vets team have been well looked after and are in good health. The staff haven’t named them but are keen to reunite them with owners.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Malpas Road practise on 01633 855 825.
