TENS of thousands of foodies descended on the historic town of Caerphilly over the weekend for the Big Cheese Festival.

The annual event, now in its 18th consecutive year, was blessed with sunshine on Saturday but endured more rain today.

With a full programme of family entertainment which included living history encampments, music, dance, folk dancing and more, the event continued to draw people from far beyond the walls of the old town.

But the Taylor Wimpey Great Cheese Race, which was scheduled to take place on Friday night, was cancelled due to the 'inclement weather' and safety concerns of those taking part.

All other scheduled events continued as normal, with people attending the town from 11am onwards on both Saturday and Sunday.

It played host to a range of tasty food halls, nail-biting re-enactment displays, musical entertainment, unique craft stalls and the funfair.

The Big Cheese weekend is a free event and more than 80,000 people were expected to attend this year, according to organisers.
