THE owner of a Monmouth bakery who admitted breaching food safety regulations has been fined.
Richard Eklof, who owns Wigmore’s Bakery on St Mary’s Street in Monmouth, pleaded guilty to five breaches of regulations at a hearing on July 17.
He admitted failing to maintain the premises in a suitable state, failing to maintain food at the correct temperature and failing to maintain a supply of hot water at hand basins and sinks.
At Newport Magistrates’ Court he was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £1,000 costs.
Monmouthshire council’s cabinet member with responsibility for public protection Cllr Giles Howard said: “The Environmental Health department will always work with food businesses to maintain standards and protect public health.
"However, we will not hesitate to use our statutory powers when conditions are found to be poor and businesses have not responded to our advice.”
