THERE were a record number of visitors to Newport’s Riverfront Theatre last year, according to a council report.

A review of leisure services considered on Wednesday said: “Notable increases in participation have been achieved in a number of areas including the Riverfront Theatre achieving 90,422 visits, its highest ever use since opening up again on a record year in 2012/-13.”

The number of people using the leisure centres also increased, to 8,701 visits per 1,000 of population up from 8,573 in 2013/-14.

The Sports Development programme increased participation by 16.5 per cent year -on- year with 265,091 participations.
