A FREIGHT train dereailment in Abergavenny has closed railway lines in Pontypool and New Inn.
Replacement transport is currently being sourced, with disruption to the railway service expected until around 6pm.
A spokesman from Arriva Trains said: “Due to an operating incident, the railway line is currently closed between Newport and Pontypool & New Inn, affecting trains in both directions on the route between South Wales, Hereford, Shrewsbury and Manchester / North Wales.
“Passengers may use their tickets on services operated by CrossCountry, First Great Western and London Midland on alternative routes via Bristol Parkway / Birmingham New Street.
“Buses are being sought to operate between Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool & New Inn, Abergavenny and Hereford, though there is currently no estimate for their arrival time.
“Railway tickets will be accepted on buses operated by Stagecoach on services X24 between Newport - Cwmbran and X3 between Cwmbran – Abergavenny.”
