CHEPSTOW’S Castell Roc festival blazed into life on Thursday as hundreds attended its charity concert opener.

Kathleen Jenkins, James Redmond and the Don Fox Scandal performed at the Big ‘C’ Charity Bash, a free night to start the festival and raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

And singers from Monmouthshire and the Forest of Dean performed as part of Karl Daymond’s Singing Club and Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band bought the night to a close.

Organiser Carol Mutlow said she thought it was a “relaxing opener to get everyone in the mood” for The festival which continues tonight with its Mod: Ska Gold show starring From The Jam and Bad Manners.

She added: “It rained up until it started and then we didn’t have anything. It was a really nice evening.”

Other performers coming to Chepstow before Castell Roc comes to a close over the Bank Holiday weekend include Bellowhead, Blue, Goldie Lookin Chain and Levellers.
