THE fabulous annual market hall installations created by Bettina Reeves and Arts Alive Wales for the Abergavenny Food Festival are a huge draw for visitors and locals alike and an announcement of this year’s theme has been eagerly awaited, particularly as the installation will remain in place for the National Eisteddfodd in August 2016.

For 2015 Bettina’s theme is ‘The Year of the Goat’, particularly apt as Goats were historically a rich part of Abergavenny’s local commerce, a heritage continued by locally based food manufacturers Abergavenny Fine Foods.

This year’s project is supported by funding from Abergavenny Town Council and promises another stunning feast for the eyes in the atrium of Abergavenny’s market hall.

Vicki Spencer-Francis, communication and creative director at Abergavenny Food Festival, said: “We love working with Arts Alive Wales as year on year, they always come up with the most creative and wonderful displays for the Market Hall. We hope people will get stuck in to helping make this year’s installation for the thousands of Festival go-ers to enjoy over the Festival weekend next month.”

If you’re creative and motivated then you are warmly invited to join the team of volunteers who’ll be working under the direction of professional theatre designer Bettina Reeves to turn her playful designs into reality.

Many volunteers return annually to take part in the exciting challenge. Textile, painting and sculpting skills are particularly useful but beginners are welcome too.

Daily workshops take place in the studio at Arts Alive Wales, Brecon Road, Crickhowell from Tuesday 1 September to Wednesday 16 September and run from 9:30am-5:30pm.

There are no workshops on Thursday 3 September or Sundays. If you would like to get involved please email: info@artsalivewales.org.uk or call 01873 811579 with your availability. Please bring lunch to share.

The new artwork will be ‘unveiled’ on Friday 18 September, and enjoyed by thousands of people over the Food Festival weekend of 19 and 20 September. This means that the 2014 ‘Pigs Might Fly’ installation will be returning to earth. Anyone interested in buying a Pig or Piglet to adorn their home or work place are invited to contact the Food Festival on affinfo@abergavennyfoodfestival.com. All proceeds contribute towards the annual project.
