A DISPERSAL order has been issued for Abergavenny and police will patrol streets there over two days in an effort to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The order will start at 10pm today (Fri) and applies to Fairfield Car Park, Park Road, Park Avenue, Park Lane, Victoria Court, Hereford Road, Abergavenny Bus Station, Cross Street, Monk Street, Holywell Road and Monmouth Road.

It provides police officers and community support officers with powers to direct people to leave an area if they are involved in anti-social behaviour or if officers think they could be involved with it later.

If they return to that area after being moved on, they face being arrested.

Residents have reported noise from beeping horns, music and large groups have stopped them from sleeping with their windows open. There have also been reports of litter.

Inspector Huw Jones said: “A dispersal order aims to deal with as well as prevent any incidents from taking place. We have used dispersal orders previously in this area to tackle anti-social behaviour and the results have been positive.”

Anyone who sees anti-social behaviour is asked to report it to Gwent Police on 101.
