THREE nurses have been struck off for their role in poor care at a Caerphilly care home which contributed to the deaths of patients.

Tembakazi Moyana, Daphne Richards and Rachel Tanta were struck off this morning.

Susan Greening received a caution order and Beverley Mock was suspended for one year.

At a hearing at Temple Chambers in Cardiff, a Nursing and Midwifery Council panel (NMC) found failings by five nurses at Brithdir Care Home amounted to misconduct.

Speaking after the hearing, families said they now wanted to see criminal proceedings brought against the care home directors as well as the three nurses struck off today.

Concerns about the home were first raised during Gwent Police's Operation Jasmine.

Pamela Cook, daughter of patient Stanley Bradford, said: "It's just so shocking, what we have heard. The nurses were responsible and accountable.

"You wouldn't get away with treating animals so badly yet they have walked away with treating our loved ones as they have."

Gail Morris, whose aunt Edith Evans suffered an infection made worse by care at the home, said: "None of them have been prosecuted, at the moment anyway.

"They still caused the death of my auntie. Just being struck off is nothing. I'm not going to be happy until there's a criminal case brought against some of these nurses or Dr Das."

Calvin Morris added: "Three of the nurses contributed to deaths. Isn't that manslaughter? They should be brought to justice."
