HUNDREDS of families made the most of the summer sunshine at the Caerwent Village Show over the weekend.

After last year’s event was blighted by wind and rain organisers were delighted with the sunny weather and the crowds that came out to enjoy it.

Neil Williams, chairman of Caerwent Playing Fields Association, the registered charity which organised the event, said: “We have been lucky with the weather and the sun has been shining all day.

“It all started from a vegetable show 40 years ago and now we have the biggest free village show in Wales."

He added: “It’s nice to see the field full and being used.

“It’s the community coming together and that’s what we wanted to see.

“Every pound they spend goes back into the community, so it benefits everyone.”

He added that one of the highlights of the show was local artists playing live music on stage until the early evening.

“They come and give their time for nothing, as it’s a bit of a show for them and they get a bit of exposure.”

As well as live music and food stalls there was also the annual flower and vegetable competition, a vintage tea room, beer tent, barbecue, bouncy castles and children’s quad bikes.

Money raised from the show is set to go towards extending the village hall.

Mother and daughter Shirley Bowart and Wendy Selway enjoyed the show.

“I think its bigger and better this year,” said Mrs Bowart.

“The weather is beautiful too.

“It’s really good to see more people here.”

Bethan and Bryan Wright came to the show with their four-year-old daughter Ruby as they had a Subaru Type-R car in the Cymraeg Scooby Club on disaplay

“Its brilliant for Ruby as she enjoys the bouncy castles and there’s loads to keep her entertained,” said Ms Wright.
