AARON Hayden doesn’t know if he’ll be a Newport County player beyond next week, but he’s determined to see the club hit the winning trail.

The 18-year old performed admirably for the Exiles in their 1-0 reverse at Home Park, one of the few bright spots in a disappointing display from the amber army.

The on-loan Wolves defender is hopeful he can stay at Rodney Parade, but is desperate to see an improvement, whatever his future is, starting on Tuesday evening against Swindon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

“I am finding it a great experience so far, I want to keep improving and progressing and help the team to get some wins,” Hayden told the Argus.

“You know as much as I do about my future and if I’ll stay longer, my loan ends on September 5 so hopefully we’ll sit down and discuss what happens.

“We aren’t playing bad football, it’s been a great experience and I don’t regret joining, I’m enjoying my time here.

“We just need to get that win to kick us off.”

Hayden felt County paid a price on Saturday for failing to take their chances.

“I think we weren’t up to our standards on Saturday, in the second half we didn’t come out like we wanted to,” he admitted.

“The thing is, we were well in the game at 0-0 in the first half and then they got there first goal.

“We didn’t do enough to get at them in the second half and we know we need to start scoring goals to get results.

“The performances haven’t been too bad, so we don’t need to panic, but we need to start sticking the ball in the net so the results come for us.

“We hit the crossbar and had chances to score, but we didn’t have enough conviction in our shots. Everyone in the team needs to do their jobs and it’ll come for us. There doesn’t need to be panic.

“We can’t take anything away from Plymouth either, they were very good, they played good football and we’ve got to win this week.”

Hayden insists the players are looking forward to three successive home games.

“We’ve got a good team spirit and we don’t blame injuries, it’s what we are doing on a match day,” he said.

“We will have a response on Tuesday and going to Rodney Parade is big for us, it is our fortress and once we get that win, it’ll come for us.

“Hopefully it can be on Tuesday. Swindon is a big challenge and they are playing very well, but we know if we play our game we can push to get a result.”
