A NEWPORT shop has raised more than £1,000 for charity after staff dressed up as Disney characters.

Staff at Spar at Bassaleg Road raised £1,102 for Spar’s partner charity, the National Society for Prevention of Cruelty Children (NSPCC).

The shop, which has been open for nearly two years, do three big fundraising events with a different theme every year.

Last month, they decided to take on the personas of Disney’s finest: from Goofy and Minions to Snow White and Minnie Mouse.

Julie Pollock, 50, the manger of the shop, said: “We all had a list so they could write down what one they wanted to be. This is the biggest one we’ve done.

“The customers love it. They all get involved.

“We’re all like family. There’s a lovely atmosphere here. It’s great for morale. Everyone is on board

“I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

Staff are already looking forward to their next fundraiser at Christmas, when they will dress up as Santa’s elves.

The NSPCC lobbies the government on issues relating to child welfare, and creates campaigns for the general public, with the intention of raising awareness of child protection issues.
