THE Newbridge on Usk restaurant has been listed in the prestigious Good Food Guide for the first time.

The riverside restaurant with rooms – part of the Celtic Manor Resort collection – occupies an idyllic location on the banks of the River Usk at Tredunnock.

It has established itself as a firm favourite with local diners and Celtic Manor residents alike since the five-star resort acquired the country inn from radio DJ and TV personality Chris Evans in 2010.

Now the restaurant has been recognised by the food experts who compile the Good Food Guide with a listing in the recently-published Good Food Guide 2016.

The ‘foodie bible’ commends the Newbridge for “a winning formula” and says, “Expect homely but often imaginative food that bursts with flavour.”

Newbridge head chef Adam Whittle said: “It is a real honour to have won a place in the Good Food Guide. This comes as a result of all the hard work and dedication of the entire team at the Newbridge on Usk.

“What is especially pleasing is that listings in The Good Food Guide are not just based on the findings of their own independent judges but also on the views of customers who take the time to send in their comments on their experiences of the restaurant.”

Menu dishes singled out in the Good Food Guide listing include an “exceptional” starter of crisp-coated lamb breast with curried sweetbreads, celeriac marmalade and Puy lentil vinaigrette; and 28-day matured, pan-roasted Welsh beef with roasted garlic mash, bone marrow, wild mushrooms and oxtail jus, a main course which is described as “rich and satisfying”.
