MOTORISTS in Newport are being warned that part of Corporation Road will become one-way while essential work to lay a new water main is carried out.

The scheme, carried out by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, will support the development of over 500 new homes in the area and is expected to take three weeks to complete.

The work will focus on the stretch of road between the junction with Lysaght Way northbound for 100 metres.

The first phase of the scheme will begin on September 26 and be carried out over two weekends, returning on the weekend of October 3.

The second phase of the work will begin on October 6 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.

To ensure the work can be carried out safely and quickly Corporation Road will be made one way- southbound from the junction with Corporation Road/SDR, to the junction with Oxwich Road. A diversion route for northbound traffic will be in place along Oxwich Road, Langland Way and the A48 (SDR) and will be clearly signposted.

Welsh Water has worked closely with Newport City Council to arrange traffic management, whilst easing the flow of traffic and ensuring minimum disruption to customers and commuters.

Ian Wyatt, Welsh Water’s head of developer services, said: “We are aware of the inconvenience that work such as this may cause and apologise to local residents.”

“We have therefore carefully planned the scheme and worked closely with the developer and Newport Council to minimise disruption to traffic and local residents.”

He added:“To ensure customers are kept informed, we have written to local residents and businesses to inform them of these essential works.”
