A VALLEYS’ cinema is going back to its concert hall roots by holding a series of world class musical events.

The historic Market Hall in Brynmawr, which is Wales’ oldest cinema, will host three different concerts by international recording artistes – ranging from energetic American funk rock, to flamenco guitar virtuosity from a Spanish master, to a performance by a British folk music legend.

Andrea Durban, who helps run the venue, explained: “We wanted to do something unique to celebrate the extraordinary and diverse history of this amazing venue.”

“So we’ve put together a series of concerts from very different artistes. Musically, they are very different, but they share one thing – that they are the best in their fields. We truly have something for everyone.”

The first of these celebrated artists to hit the stage at 7pm on September 25 will be singer songwriter Dan Reed, former front man of the American stadium rock outfit, The Dan Reed Network. Tickets are £10.

Voted as one of the top three guitarists in the World by readers of ‘Guitar Player’ magazine, iInternationally- renowned Flamenco artist Juan Martin will perform on October 10, while . He has recorded 18 albums, mostly as a composer and has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

British Folk legend Martin Simpson – who is regarded one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world – will take centre stage on November 19. Mr Simpson is regarded as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world.
