IT IS now just two months until the new opt-out organ donation law comes into effect in Wales.

The arguing is well and truly over about the merits or otherwise of putting forward such a scheme and now it is just a matter of weeks until the change takes effect on December 1.

What it means is that people will automatically be assumed to be organ donors unless they opt-out of the scheme.

This is, of course, in direct contrast to the current situation.

Supporters believe the law change to one of deemed consent will make a huge difference to the hundreds of people waiting for organ transplants That is people like Rhys Thomas who we feature today.

The former Wales and Newport Gwent Dragons player had choice but to give up his beloved sport following a heart attack. in 2012.

He has had to undergo very delicate surgery and is currently linked up to a machine 24 hours aof every day. For him, an organ transplant would be transformational.

He makes a plea for people to support the new scheme, which is aimed at saving the lives of those who would otherwise die simply because no organ is available.

We know there are many who still object to the scheme for all sorts of reasons.

But Mr Thomas, a dad of four, puts forward a compelling argument.
