THE winners of Blaenau Gwent in Bloom have been announced.

The annual competition has become a tradition for the borough and celebrates the borough’s best gardening talents.

This year’s Blaenau Gwent in Bloom presentation day was held at the Market Hall Cinema, Brynmawr, where all the winners were presented with a certificate and trophy by this year’s sponsors.

Mayor of Blaenau Gwent, cllr Derrick Bevan presented the four special awards announced on the day.

The John Evans Cup, awarded for innovation within schools, was given to Sofrydd Primary School while the Nantyglo Comprehensive School Cup, awarded to a school on the judge’s recommendation, was given to Bryngwyn Primary School.

The Clay Jones Trophy, which is awarded to the town which has contributed most to this year’s competition, was given to Brynmawr.

And Stella Hazell, of Brynmawr, was awarded the Glyn Burchell Award, given to the individual who contributed most to the competition.

Brynmawr Market Hall cinema was also named the building which came first in the competition. Brynithel Community Centre was highly commended.

The afternoon finished with a buffet and refreshments.
