FUNDRAISING campaigner Jackie Lewis has welcomed two more members to her team aiming to raise £44,444.44 for St David's Hospice in memory of her son.

Newport lifeguard Steve Lewis was just 31 when he died from stomach cancer in 2011 and since then Ms Lewis has dedicated her time to fundraising for St David's Hospice Care which helped care for him.

After reaching her target of raising £33,333.33 for the charity last year, Ms Lewis entered her fourth year of fundraising with a new target - to raise £44,444.44.

Last week, Ms Lewis' fundraising team welcomed two more members,Teresa Jenkins and Denise Pocock, to the dedicated team.

Ms Lewis said: "The five original members of the group including myself were very happy to think that three and a half years down the line we are still going from strength to strength.

"Very often in a fundraising situation it is very successful initially but then interest gradually declines because other things take over.

"We are very lucky to have so much support from the community and that can only be good news for those that need the support of St David's Hospice Care."

The next event organised by the fundraising team will be an evening with John Hartson at the Newport Indoor Bowling Centre on Thursday, October 22.

There will also be a buffet and raffle plus an auction of a framed British Sky Cycling Jersey signed by many of the current British Cycling Team.

So far Jackie Lewis has raised more than £37,000 and hopes to reach the target of £44,444.44 by the end May 2016.
