A NEWPORT bus driver had to restrain a drunk passenger yesterday after he became abusive towards passengers.

Police were called to Cardiff Road at around 1.40pm after a drunk man started kicking at the bus door.

The driver of the Newport number 37 service had to stop the vehicle suddenly which resulted in one woman spraining her wrist.

Anna Williams, of Church Crescent, Bassaleg, who was a passenger on the bus, said she had hit the back of her head and hurt her arm after the driver had to slam on his brakes.

She said she was going to go the hospital to treat her injuries.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said the incident was dealt with before it was reported to police and no arrest was made.
