Now in its sixth year, Newport's Night of Honour is all about recognising the work of the city's finest, who often are left out of the spotlight.

This year's awards ceremony will take place at the Kings Church in Newport on Sunday, November 8.

Last year's event attracted more than 700 people from all walks of life across the city to thank ordinary Newport residents for the extraordinary work they do.

Argus readers are being encouraged to nominate heroes for three awards, the Heart of Gold Award, Above and Beyond Award and Young Person of the Year.

The Heart of Gold award is local heroes who may be cares for others or who always goes out of their way to help people in need, the Above and Beyond Award, for an individual or business, is for anyone who goes beyond the call of duty and the Young Person of the Year, open to children or teenagers, is someone who has made a difference to their school, activity group or community, whether its raising money for charity, mentoring, motivating or volunteering, their commitment, passion and enthusiasm to see other people excel knows no end.

As well as the publicly nominated awards, Newport communities, in association with Communities First, have also been asked to nominated their community champions, people who work tirelessly in their local areas.

A section of the awards ceremony will be handed over to Communities First to showcase these people.

Entertainment on the night will be in the form of Rachael Roberts, a Shirley Bassey impersonator, as well as local dance groups and the Kings Church team.

Organiser Hayley Corley said: "It's honouring the local everyday heroes that never get recognition, that always turn out for their friends and neighbours, they always go the extra mile to make a difference.

"We read bad news all day long but we never hear good news stories. It's the one night of the year to celebrate the good news stories and the people of Newport.

"King’s Church is once again honoured to host this event on behalf of the city of Newport."

Nominations can be emailed at noh@kings-church.org uk, sent via Facebook or by writing to The King’s Church, 71 Lower Dock Street, Newport, NP20 1EH.

Closing date for nominations is Friday, October 30 at 12pm.
