MAINDEE Primary School turned into a court room for the day when children and professionals acted out a free 'Judge for Yourself' event.

Organised by the Gwent Criminal Justice Board, youngsters turned up to see how the criminal justice process works from the point of arrest by the police to the Crown Prosecution Service bringing the case to court.

The day showed how the courts service passes judgement and then passes onto the probation service who guide the convicted criminal through their sentence.

Information was available from a range of services including the police, Witness Care, Victim Support and Black Association of Women Step Out (BAWSO).

Deputy Chief Constable of Gwent Police, Mick Giannasi, said they wanted to provide information about how the Criminal Justice System in Gwent works and also gain feedback on how the systems can improve.
