THESE are the artist’s impressions submitted as part of a planning application for 29 new affordable homes in Rogerstone by local housing provider Seren Group.

Last month, Seren submitted the application to Newport City Council for the homes at Tregwilym Road.

Using the blueprint for a similar development at Loftus Garden Village, Seren hope to build a combination of townhouses and more traditional homes and apartments in an arts and crafts style.

If granted, work could begin early in 2016 ahead of completion in spring 2017, and the homes will be available to rent or buy through Serenliving’s home ownership scheme.

The 1.86 acre land adjoins Tregwilym Road, with the main entrance to the proposed site through the now demolished former Redwood social club.

The majority of the land is owned by Newport City Council, and is bounded by a natural screening of trees that form an embankment to the main A467 from Newport to Risca.

Neil Barber, Seren’s director of development, said “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Newport City Council to bring more much-needed affordable homes to the City of Newport.

“With both a real shortage of high quality homes for rent and so many working people still unable to get a foot on the property ladder, we are expecting the homes to be in huge demand when they are ready spring 2017”.
