PLANS are afoot to open a waste centre able to process 100,000 tonnes of rubbish a year.
The processing centre would be sited at the Nine Mile Point Industrial Estate in Greenmeadow Road, Wattsville, planning documents show.
The production plant would sort, shred and dry non-hazardous commercial, industrial and household waste.
The facility is expected to generate 52 two-way lorry trips a day or about one two-way trip an hour. Waste bales would be stored at the site before being transported to facilities to produce energy.
The proposed 1 hectare plant would be situated on the 16 hectare industrial industrial estate, which supports manufacturing, distribution warehouses, workshops and offices.
The applicant, Hazrem Environmental Ltd, has submitted a plan application to Caerphilly council.
The company provides a range of services within the waste disposal and recycling sector.
The application is to be considered in due course. A Caerphilly council spokeswoman said: “It has yet to be determined – it is presently down for a decision under officers’ delegated powers, but whether or not it needs to go to the planning committee will be determined over the coming weeks.”
