I WANT to welcome the decision of the Arts Council of Wales to support the community work at the Blackwood Miners’ Institute from 2016.
I’m delighted that the work at the institute has been recognised by the arts council.   This is a testament to the hard work of the staff.
The former Plaid Cymru administration on Caerphilly County Borough Council approved an initial  £750,000 refurbishment in June 2011. The replacement of the roof and internal improvements transformed this venue, which has become more and more popular and is far more attractive to patrons. The institute was at a stage where the choice was between renovating or closure.
I was proud that as a council we were able to kick start the transformation of the ‘Stute and I’m sure it will go on from strength to strength.
