NEWPORT Gwent Dragons hooker Elliot Dee is poised for his first start in almost nine months in Glasgow on Friday while wing Tom Prydie could feature after receiving good news about his injured left knee.

Dee came off the bench for the Rodney Parade region in their 37-13 loss to Leinster in Dublin at the start of the month and is set to be given the 2 jersey at Scotstoun Stadium (kick-off 7.35pm).

The 21-year-old from Newbridge has not started for the Dragons since suffering a shoulder injury in the home win against Stade Francais in January.

The Dragons are sweating on the fitness of fly-halves Dorian Jones (groin) and Angus O’Brien (ribs) but have received a big boost with the news that wing/full-back Prydie’s knee injury is not serious.

The 23-year-old twisted his left leg in the loss to Leinster but scans revealed no damage and he could even be on the bench for the trip to Scotland.

That is a relief given that is estimated Hallam Amos will be out until the Six Nations period after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder after being injured in Wales’ World Cup win against England at Twickenham.

The Dragons head north with director of rugby Lyn Jones calling on his players to be more positive with ball in hand against the champions.

He said: “We need to put a bit of positivity in our game. We went to Leinster with a defensive mindset and didn’t put any momentum into the game.

“Our number of unforced errors was too high and we lost our way but Glasgow is a very positive place to go, they like to play a lot of football and it’s going to be a fast, open game.

“The challenge is that we have to score a minimum of 25 points to win up there. You are not going to win anything with turnover ratios of 40 to 50 per cent.

“What we are going through is typical of a new team in the early stages of the season when everybody’s error count is too high.

“To be a successful side you need to only have 30 per cent or less turnover ratio and we are hitting 40 to 50. That is crucifying us and we haven’t been able to apply pressure.

“It’s down to individuals to take on responsibility and we are hoping for a far more positive attitude to play and take on Glasgow, who do play open rugby themselves.”

The Warriors are set to hand a debut to new signing Taqele Naiyaravoro, the Fiji-born Australia international wing.
