REMEMBRANCE services will be held across Gwent to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in two World Wars and more recent conflicts.

Newport’s Garden of Remembrance, in Clarence Place, will be opened in the presence of the Mayor, Cllr Herbie Thomas, today at 10.45am ahead of the annual service and parade to the Cenotaph.

The city's main parade will take place on Remembrance Sunday, November 8, assembling in High Street at 10.30am before marching to the Cenotaph in Clarence Place.

In Monmouthshire, the council will mark two minutes’ silence on Wednesday, 11 November by firing rockets at 11am and 11.02am from castles in Abergavenny, Caldicot, Chepstow and Monmouth.

A parade will take place on Station Road, Caldicot, between 10am and 3pm, on November 8. Another will take place in Magor Square, with the parade gathering at 10.45am and a two minute silence held.

In Blaenau Gwent a number of Remembrance Sunday services will take place on November 8.

A parade for the Rassau and Beaufort area will meet at 1.25pm in the Beaufort Ballroom, then proceed to the Cenotaph where a service will commence at 1.55pm. Afterwards, the parade will re-form and march back up Beaufort Rise to the Beaufort Theatre.

In Ebbw Vale, a parade will assemble in Bethcar Street at 10.15am, and at 10.30am will proceed via Market Street to the War Memorial for a service at 10.50am.

A parade will be held in Brynmawr, assembling at 10.15am outside the Legion Club, Beaufort Street, and will set of at 10.25am, via King Street. It will move onto the Market Hall Cinema for a two minute silence at 11am followed by a service.

The parade will reform at 11.40am on Alma Street to march to the Cenotaph on Market Square for the laying of wreaths.

In Nantyglo and Blaina, a parade will commence at 2.10pm from Garn Cross proceeding to the War Memorial, Central Park, Blaina for a service at 2.45pm.

Following the service, the parade march to the former District Office, High Street.

A parade will be held in Tredegar, arriving at St James Church at 9.45am, and at 10.30am it will move to the Cenotaph at Bedwellty Park for a service at 10.50am.

In Abertillery, a parade will assemble at 10.15am at the top end of Church Street, march off at 10.30am to the war memorial. It will reassemble at 11.15am for the march to the Salvation Army Citadel for a service.

On the same day in LLanhilleth, a parade will assemble at 10.15am at Saint Mark’s Church, march off at 10.30am for service at war memorial, Llanhilleth Institute at 10.45am.

In Bournville, it will assemble at the community hall at 3pm and wreaths will be laid at the war memorial.

In Torfaen parades will take place across Blaenavon, Cwmbran and Pontypool.

In Blaenavon, the parade will gather at the Top Car Park, and at 10.40am will march via Broad Street and Ivor Street to the Cenotaph. At 11am, wreath laying and service at the Cenotaph, followed by a service in St Peter’s Church.

In Cwmbran the parade will assemble at 10.10am at Clomendy Road and will move off at 10.25am via Commercial Street, Victoria Street, to War Memorial Clock for prayers. The parade will then head to Cocker Avenue Park for a service and wreath laying ceremony. At 11.15am the parade will move on to St Gabriel’s Church.

In New Inn the parade will assemble at 10am at St Mary’s Church Hall, The Highway and at 10.10am will move off to St Mary’s Church.

In Pontnewydd the parade will assemble at 10.15am and at 10.30am will move from Pontnewydd Royal British Legion Club, Station Road, for wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph.

In Pontypool at 11.45am, the parade will assemble on Commercial Street and at 12noon will move to the Memorial Gates for a service.

A service will be held in Abersychan on Garn Wen Mountain. Meet at 9.30am at Waterworks Lane Bridge for the short service at 11am to remember those lost in the Blenheim Bomber crash in 1940.

At 3pm, a service will be held at Henllys Village Hall, in Panteg at 10.30am a service will be held at St Hilda’s Church and at 11.45am a wreath laying will take place at Panteg Cemetery.

In Pontnewynydd at 10.45am a service will take place at St Cadoc’s Church, Trevethin.

In Pontypool, at 10.30am, a service will be held at Crane Street Baptist Church and at 11am a mass will be at St Albans RC Church, George Street.

In Caerphilly, on November 7, a laying of wreaths will take place at Pontllanfraith House, 1.30pm, followed by a service at St Augustine’s Church, Pontllanfraith at 2pm.

On Sunday, November 8, Services will be held at Oakdale Memorial at 11am, Moose Hall, Pentwyn Road, Blackwood at 10am followed by a service and wreath laying at Blackwood Memorial at 10.50am.

Also at Maesycwmmer Community Garden, The Crescent at 1230pm, and St Martin’s Church, Caerphilly at 2.45pm, followed by a parade to the Cenotaph at 3pm.

Services will also be held at Glanynant Memorial Garden, New Road, Cwmfelinfach at 10.45am, Wyllie Cenotaph, Glanhowy Road at 12noon, Cwmcarn Cenotaph at 10.30am and Abercarn Cenotaph at 11am.

Further services will take place at Deri Memorial at 10.45am, Markham Memorial, Pantycefn Road at 11am and Argoed Memorial at 11am.

A parade will leave Rifleman Street, Risca at 10.30am to the Cenotaph for the laying of Wreaths, and services will take place at Brithdir Memorial at 10.30am, Tirphil Memorial at 10am and St Sannan’s Church, Bedwellty at 10.30am.
