SHOPPERS enjoyed the first ever Ponthir Market Christmas Fair today.

Families were treated to carol singing by the Salvation Army while youngsters enjoy face-painting and a visit to Santa’s Grotto.

The event was organised by Ponthir resident Natalie Davies and held at Ponthir Village Hall.

Visitors to the fair browsed a range of stalls that included Ponthir farm shop, animal sanctuary All Creatures Great and Small, Miss Daisy’s Christmas Preserves, Bruno’s Bakery, Perfect Posy, Glenside Honey Farm and Equinox Holistics.

Ms Davies, 32, said the event was a ‘rip-roaring success’ and that she was overwhelmed by the support shown by the community.

“It was extremely well supported. I came up with the idea to hold the fair as a way of bringing the community together. We don’t have a village shop or post office so with support from the community council organised today’s event.

“We had local charities and businesses here as well as Ponthir Playgroup and St David’s Hospice Foundation Care. It was lovely to see everyone supporting each other, whilst raising funds for good causes at the same time.

“It such a success that we hope to hold the event again next year. I’m over the moon with the support shown, not just from the people of Ponthir but from the wider community,” added the mum-of-two.
