If you’re looking for a fun show for all the family, ‘Shrek The Musical’ is definitely one not to miss.

This ‘once upon a time’ musical, from the 2001 DreamWorks film, was jam-packed with theatrical comedy.

Thanks to the singing, laughter and flamboyant costumes; both children and adults alike can enjoy the magical tale of Shrek and Donkey freeing Fiona from the dragon guarded castle.

Shrek, Dean Chisnall, lived up to his leading role and portrayed both the vulgar and loveable sides of his personality well. His unexpected romance with Fiona created the perfect untraditional but spellbinding, fairy tale ending.

Bronte Barbe as Princess Fiona was a faultless princess but later on reveals her true Ogre self.  Her singing was on top form where I particularly enjoyed her performance of ‘I Know it’s Today’ and ‘Morning Person.’

The show would not have been complete without humorous performances from Lord Farquaad, Gerard Carey, and Donkey, Idriss Kargbo. Both these characters were always a welcome on stage and left the audience in hysterics.

All the Fairy Tale Creatures costumes were brilliant and their performances only added to the entertainment factor.

More magic can be found in the show's special touches such as the children's storybook at the opening of the show, tap-dancing rats and a manually operated dragon.

As with the film, they ended the show in true style with the cast rocking out to ‘I’m a Believer.’

This is a wonderful musical to see, whether it be a treat in the run up to Christmas or a pick me up during the post-Christmas lull. The show continues until January 10.
