A FEATHERWEIGHT boxing champion and fundraiser from Newport will spread some Christmas cheer to children suffering with cancer this month.

Lee Selby, who trains at St Josephs ABC, is helping Mark Fredrickson, 38, present over £2,000 worth of gifts at the University Hospital of Wales.

Mr Fredrickson, of Green Close, has visited the children’s cancer wards at the hospital for four years with Selby.

Ahead of a visit to the oncology unit on Tuesday, December 22, he said: “Lee has been helping me out for the last five years bringing in his title belt and gloves along.

"The children love to get photographs with such a local hero and seeing the children’s smiling faces is just inspirational.”

The cancer fundraiser also gave thanks businessmen and dog shelters who have contributed to the fundraising, which currently stands at £1,500 this year.

Selby, 28, added: “It has been really rewarding for me and it is very nice to give back to the children that haven’t got much.

“Mark is a great guy and he takes a lot of time away from his family life to raise the money for the children.”

The fundraising is run in conjunction with the Latch Charity, which supports children being treated at the Oncology unit at the Children’s Hospital of South Wales.
