A prominent property in Newport’s Gold Tops area has been leased by the National Autistic Society Cymru as a centre of excellence.

The four-floor property, St Marks House, at 3 Gold Tops, is semi-detached and offers some 5,000 sq ft of space.

Harvey Philpott, services manager, NAS Cymru, said: “NAS Cymru is delighted to be opening St Mark's House which is a training centre for people affected by autism.

“This centre of excellence in autism practice will support people with autism to learn new skills in woodwork, computing, creative arts as well as developing their independent living skills.

“Leasing the building means that we will be able to support up to 25 people every day and will become a focal point for NAS Cymru’s activities in Newport.”

Some 15 to 20 members of staff will be based at St Mark’s initially with the possibility of further jobs being created should the centre expand in future

Fiona Weaver, of agents Hutchings and Thomas Chartered Surveyors, who sourced the property, said: “The National Autistic Society was specific in their requirements for office and 'workshop' space in central Newport. We were able to identify St Marks House at 3 Gold Tops and it suits them right down to the ground, due to its central location, ease of access to transport links, parking, the space available and the outstanding quality of the accommodation.”

Fiona said interest in Newport’s Gold Tops area had been rekindled over recent months. The agency, which is based at The Estates Office, Gold Tops, said space within two properties, numbers 5 and 24 Gold Tops, are currently on their books and available.

NAS Cymru has secured the lease for St Mark’s House for 10 years.
