STAFF at a valley’s cinema are appealing for anyone who saw the classic film ‘Brief Encounter’ when it was first screened in the area 70 years ago to get in touch.

The Market Hall Cinema in Brynmawr is turning back the clock on Valentine’s Day to the golden age of movies.

It will feature the romantic film as part of the venue's 122-year anniversary.

The black-and -white David Lean classic, starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson, tells of the doomed love affair between a doctor and a bored housewife and was first shown in the venue in 1947

Andrea Durban, who helps run the cinema, said: “It would be wonderful to discover if anyone out there maybe went on a first date to see the film with their future partner.

"We'd love to hear from them, especially if they fancy taking a trip down memory lane.”

There will also be a waiter service with free tea and coffee served to the audience in their seats.

Cinema manager, Ralph Prince added: “We're trying to recreate a little of the urbane luxury of years gone by.

“Our Vintage Valentine is our own love letter to an era when a trip to the cinema was the height of romantic sophistication.”

Anyone who saw the film during its first screening at the Market Hall can contact 01495 310576.

The film will be shown at 4pm on February 14. Tickets are £3.50.
