A GOLF club worker has died after being pulled from the lake of Peterstone Golf Club in Newport.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 12.10pm yesterday, where a 29-year-old man was pulled from a lake on the grounds of the club by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews, using inflatable rescue boats and underwater cameras.

He has been named as Gareth Pugh from Glynneath.

Mr Pugh was taken to University Hospital of Wales where he died.

A post mortem examination is due to take place next week.

Gwent Police confirmed Mr Pugh was working at the club, collecting golf balls.

Gwent Police and Newport City Council’s Environmental Health Department are currently working together to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist trained officers at this time.
