HUNDREDS of mourners paid their respects to a young mum-to-be who died from deep vein thrombosis.

The funeral of Scarlett Holyoake, 18, also known as Scarlett De-Lacey from Risca, took place today at St Margaret's Church in her hometown. Around 200 mourners packed out the church with 30 people having to listen to the service outside.

Ms Holyoake died on January 19, from deep vein thrombosis after a blood clot travelled from her leg to her lungs.

She was five and a half months pregnant with her first child at the time of her death, a little boy, who she and her boyfriend Sam Moulder had named Rocco.

Blue and white flowers spelling Rocco were laid beside the coffin. Friends and family wore items of red clothing and carried red roses in memory of the teenager.

Reverend Martyn Evans carried out the service which featured the hymns 'O, Jesus I have Promised,' 'Make Me a Channel of Your Peace,' and 'The King of Love My Shepherd is.'

In the order of service it said: "The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all relatives, friends and neighbours for their cards of condolence, words of comfort, kind support and sympathy shown to them during their recent sad time."

The white coffin was carried out at the end of the service to Alicia Key's ‘No One.’ Donations to The British Heart Foundation were asked to be given in lieu of flowers.

Her boyfriend Mr Moulder in a tribute after her death said: “She was the best. She always put everyone else’s happiness before hers – no matter what."
