THE owner of a Gwent Spar shop was fined £1,000 for food hygiene offences.
Rashid Iqbal, proprietor of the Spar, 28 Cross Street, Abergavenny, pleaded guilty of three food hygiene and food standards offences under food labelling and food hygiene regulations.
The case, presented by Monmouthshire county council, was heard at Abergavenny Magistrates' Court.
Iqbal was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay prosecution costs for selling food past its use-by date, not keeping food at safe temperatures and not maintaining a food safety management system.
An environmental health officer inspected the shop in January and found food products on sale beyond use by dates.
In addition some of this food was kept above the legal temperature.
A food hygiene management system was not being maintained and the temperatures of fridges, freezers, and the hot cabinet were not being checked and recorded.
